The Norway – Denmark sailing adventure- Lysefjord.

Kacper and I spent 4 hours trying not to get completely soaked. The drizzle developed into rain and then decided to come back to being a mean drizzle again. Nothing was safe from becoming wet inside and out. This is how important is to have good sailing cloths! My jacket from Decathlon will be replaced with something more professional soon. I am so happy that Christmas is coming and our families do not have to really think much about what to get me or Marcin! Off course, when our watch was done, the weather decided to change. Just our luck!

Unusually for Norway the rain stopped for good just before we reached the entrance to the Lysefjord. I could not wait! Our sails were up and we were heading towards huge Lysefjord bridge. There is something quite unnerving when you are sailing under the bridge – even though you know well your mast is not going to touch it, from your perspective, with a head pert up you are almost sure that the accident is about to happen! It is quite amazing how our own senses can deceive us.

We took the mainsail down and were slowly approaching the entrance to the fjord sailing on genua. We were all excited and happy that we still have enough wind to keep us going and we will not be disturbing the beauty around with our engine running. We were heading inside the fjord with a style!

Lysefjord appreciated our silence and compensated us with incredible view – the black harsh rocks were glittering in the sun and looked like painted with warmish. We could hear the waterfalls purring like happy cats. Slowly we were loosing the sight of the bridge. The calmness of the water was incredible! Even and dark blue, only disturbed by our boat, cutting through the glassy surface. No birds around. Few small trees and bushes were attached to the walls, trying to survive.

The drizzle was trying to come back from time to time, but no one minded. Every single person was looking around, taking pictures and enjoying the moment. I was so focused on taking it all in that I did not even notice how long it took us to get to the end of the fjord. At some point the wind died completely and the engine cut the silence. O, well, we did manage to sail in the fjord for a quite a while, so that was great anyway!

Incredibly we were the only sailing vessel staying over night! We have reached Lysebot, dock and went for a little walk around. There is a campsite nearby and a small hotel you can stay overnight. There is as well a ferry, if you fancy getting there by water. Another waterfall is humming nearby and the small port is very well kept. You might feel like you landed at the end of the world, the quietness and rawness of this place is somehow disheartening.

I listened to the silence around me. I felt tired and decided to have an early night. We were leaving very early tomorrow.
